The scroll reads:"This strait took its name from Ferdinand Magellan, the first one to cross it after leaving from Seville on the 10th of August 1519 with five ships carrying 237 men…at the end in 1522 only one of the ships carrying 18 men came back to Seville..it is the same ship Victoria you can still see nowadays in Seville." - Historical information: The panels in the Maps'Room are 53. 30 out of these were realized by the dominican friar from Perugia Egnazio Danti, the court cosmographer from 1553 to 1575; the remaining 23 were realized by the olivetan monk Stefano Bonsignori from 1576 to 1586. The panels show all the world as known at the time.
