Chimpanzee

Senckenberg Nature Museum Frankfurt

Senckenberg Nature Museum Frankfurt
Frankfurt am Main, Germany

Chimpanzees are a member of the apes and are widely distributed across large parts of central Africa. However, their populations are severely threated by the increasing destruction of their habitat. Chimpanzees occur both in dry savannas and in mountainous regions up to an elevation of 3,000 meters and are also found in rainforests. They tend to be diurnal, and in the evening they build sleeping nests from leaves and twigs, which are only used once.
