An estimated 20,000 Chinese American men, representing up to 22 percent of the men in their portion of the U.S. population, served during World War II. 40 percent of Chinese Americans fighting were not citizens. China and the United States became World War II allies against Japan. The U.S. Army drafted over 20 percent of Chinese men living in the United States.
