The Fan Museum
London, United Kingdom

Fan with ivory sticks decorated with chinoiserie figures and buildings in straw work.

The double paper leaf is decorated on the recto in straw work with chinoiserie figures, pagodas and pavilions.  The design is reminiscent of work by Pillement.

Pillement, Jean-Baptiste (French, 1728 – 1808)
Artist and official painter for Marie Antoinette, whose chinoiserie details, landscapes and flower paintings provided motifs for furniture makers, tapestry weavers and silk manufacturers.
