Artist information: Eminently known for his excellent use of colours, Gerard David was an early Netherlandish painter and manuscript illuminator. In Bruges, where he spent the bulk of his active period, he was member of the painters' guild and became its leading painter. He studied and copied masterpieces by Jan van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden and Hugo van der Goes. His acquaintance with Memling led to the artist having the most obvious influence on his works. He is recognized for paintings like The Virgin among Angels (1509) or Triptych of the Sedano Family (1523).
