Church of Santa Maria della Croce and the convent - the convent

The monastery was founded by the Friars Minor observing the teachings of St. Francis, at the beginning of the sixteenth century, thanks to the contribution of the University of Scicli and the Counts of Modica, Anna Cabrera and Federico Enriquez. Spared from the 1693’s earthquake, the monastery is divided into two trapezoidal courtyards, located near the overhang of the quarry, of which only a few ruins remain.
