The carriages, painted in the lower right corner, seem to descend from the hill, expanding the space of the painting beyond the borders of the frame. Caricature treatment of the forms seen in one frame of the city, plans that line the walls and roofs of almost unreal houses, mostly dirty white, gray and dark tones, in coaction, create anxiety (peculiar tension) as a dominant feeling of the work, in the fight against the proverbial "night peace''. In the midst of this all-pervading fading of color, we also notice, almost imperceptibly, the enigmatic and ordinary, red mailbox.
