Clay pipe

This clay pipe stem, excavated from the Cruthers-MacNaughton site in 1997, has teeth marks. A large number of clay pipes and clay pipe fragments were recovered by Archaeological Services Inc. from the 19th century Euro Canadian deposit. Clay tobacco pipes were so common and easily broken that they are one of the most frequently found artifacts on colonial and post-colonial settlements in Canada. The teeth marks on this pipe, worn into the stem from long hours of use, make it unique.
