Elizabeth Alice Townsend Austen, Alice's grandmother and the one responsible for naming Clear Comfort, pictured here. Grandmother Elizabeth is seated in the shade of the Clear Comfort porch, surrounded by rich greenery. Being a Quaker, she wore plain clothes and little jewelry except for a mourning ring, inscribed with the initials for her two dead sons.
