Henry Moret tirelessly explored the Breton coast and visited Ushant Island almost every year from 1895 to 1903. Faithful to a Post-Impressionist style, from Paul Gauguin’s teachings he retained only the use of bright colour and highly-structured lines. From a limited subject matter, Moret created this magnificent landscape as he was able to portray nature’s splendour and particular light. His daring use of colour, in stark contrast to the romantic image of Brittany, creates a landscape that is both true to nature and completely free.
