Coffer

Workshop of the Nailed Figuresthird quarter of the 14th century - third quarter of the 14th century

Bagatti Valsecchi Museum

Bagatti Valsecchi Museum
Milano, Italy

Attributed to the "Nailed Figures Workshop" for stylistic and technical reaons, this little coffer presents carved bone plaques with traces of ivory depicting figures, nudes, architectural features and twisted columns on the corners. Though the coffer does display some damage, it is among the best pieces produced by this renowned workshop. The coffer is still displayed--as are all other objects in the museum--in its original place, thus contributing to the authentic "time capsule" ambiance.
