Boa is a ritualistic product made of Shola (a type of natural fibre) from Dinajpur, West Bengal. The monsoon season brings the festival of Manasa worship. During immersion of the Goddess in water, at the end of the festival, Boa or cuboids made out of Shola are either floated on water on a banana leaf boat or hung from bamboo frames over the water. There is a popular belief among the villagers that this ritual saves the villagers from snake bites because the Boa stands as a testimony of Manasa (the Goddess of snakes) worship.
