Nikolay Abrashev’s life and work have hardly been subject of thorough research in Bulgaria. Presumably, he studied in Italy during WWI. In 1919, Abrashev was the publisher and editor of two issues, published in Sofia. Between 1924 and 1927, he lived in Brazil. He then settled in New York and lived there until the end of his life. In 1928, he founded the New York – based Abrashev School of Art. In 1936, he opened an art gallery in Boston, exhibiting works by Picasso, Modigliani, Derain and others.
