Constitution2Go has been conceived as an answer to a commission by Harvard Library for a show during SxSW 2014 festival in Austin, TX, prominently featuring keynotes by Julian Assange and Edward Snowden. My work is sensitive to existing discourses touching the realm of citizen and digital rights. In 2013 my project DRM Chair – a chair embedded with a DRM system which disabled itself after a limited number of seatings – caught much attention and as a follow up to this sort of techno-critical object, I designed Constitution2Go. A handheld device which sole function is to plug into standard ticket printers, and on the press of a button to print out a full copy of the U.S. Constitution. By printing this document on the archetypal consumerist printing medium, the device commodifies the most important document of the United States of America. The posture of the hacker as a figure of socio-cultural change is explored through the lens of a technological guerilla apparatus.
