Construction of Cincinnati Union Terminal Station, 1931-1932

Cincinnati’s Union Terminal replaced five separate terminals and centralized the passenger and freight lines of seven railroads. This unprecedented coordination of competing business, engineering, and civic interests was matched by an outstanding synthesis of Art Deco architecture and interior design. Especially noteworthy are the mosaic murals designed by Winold Reiss. Although train service was halted in 1972, Amtrak began operating at the terminal in 1991, a year after it reopened as the Cincinnati Museum Center.
