  • Transcript:
We have received your letter dated tenth of this month and wish to inform you that the cheque to the amount of 14,000 francs which you have discounted in favour of N. Elefteris has not been issued by ourselves and that it is a forged cheque. Once the forger has counterfeited the format, signatures and even the stamp, it will be difficult for you to recognise it except for the printing mistake in the inscription "Banque Impériale Ottomane" in small letters which is repeated to form a security backdrop. In the forged cheques, the line at the end of the first line, where there is the inscription "la somme de" ends with the word "BANQ", whereas in the genuine cheques the first line ends with the word "OTTOMANE". We are pursuing the accomplices of the forgers and hope they will be arrested shortly.
