A flock of cormorants and some seagulls on cliffs. In the background, islands in the midnight sun.
Thorolf Holmboe was born in Vefsn in Northern Norway and moved with his family to Tromsø further north at the age of 10. His father ran an art gallery and founded the Tromsø Art Society.
Holmboe was clearly fascinated by the beauty of the midnight sun since this is one of several paintings of his with a similar motif, a scenery where we can see both the midnight sun and islands in the background.
