Coronation of the Virgin

Altichiero

Museo di Castelvecchio

Museo di Castelvecchio
Verona, Italy

This fresco was removed from the tomb of Aventino Fracastoro, the illustrious physician of the Della Scala, which was attached to the facade of the church of San Fermo. The fresco was painted in the 1380’s and is generally attributed to an artist close to Altichiero, but it is difficult to be more specific because of the poor state of conservation. Four figures of prophets appear under the arch.
