Devoted to the Texas landscape, Edward G. Eisenlohr claimed, "If you can't find a landscape worth painting within ten miles of where you are, no matter where you are, then you shouldn't be a painter." Originally a banker, Eisenlohr studied with Frank Reaugh and Robert Jenkins Onderdonk, as well as in Woodstock, New York, and Karlsruhe, Germany.
