St Mary’s Church in Cromford, Derbyshire, was built by industrialist Sir Richard Arkwright, originally as his private chapel. Arkwright, credited with the development of the cotton spinning frame, died five years before it was finished, and his son on its completion in 1797, opened it up for public use. Sir Richard Arkwright lies in the crypt and family members are buried in the churchyard.
