Nelson the Clown was used on posters advertising the arrival of the circus in Great Yarmouth as a publicity stunt he would float down the River Yare in a washtub pulled by four Geese. The stunt went wrong when the large crowd who had gathered on the suspension bridge over the river were plunged into the water when the bridge failed. 74 people, mostly children perished.
