As an epitome of the traditional culture of the Yi ethnic minority, the Yi embroidery with various patterns, exquisite embellishments, ingenious and time-honored techniques has evolved into an indispensable component in the Yi people’s attire and adornment, as well as a carrier of inheritance by the Yi people of their ancestor’s culture. Upon the approval of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China on June 7, 2008, the Yi embroidery was listed in the second batch of national-level intangible cultural heritage.
