John Laing built the flats at Cumberland Court between April 1975 and March 1976. The development comprises thirty-two flats in two terraced blocks facing each other across a landscaped pedestrian precinct. Built for elderly residents, each flat was equipped with emergency switches to light a red lamp outside the porch to alert a resident warden.
