Lucy Kemp-Welch was drawn to the beauty of Cornwall, like many other artists. This large watercolour appears to have been made on a trip to the area. She ran an art school in her native Bushey, in Hertfordshire. Kemp-Welch was well-known for her paintings of horses and riders. She was President of the Society of Animal Painters.
