Figurine of the canonical type (Spedos variety) with visible traces of a double red band on the right side of the chest. The figurine is attributed to the so-called "Goulandris Master", one of the most prolific creators of Cycladic figurines, with several examples being exhibited in the Museum of Cycladic Art. Characteristic traits of his work are the lyre-shaped face with long conical nose, the sharply sloping shoulders, the small pubic triangle, the curvaceous buttocks, etc. The attribution of figurines with common morphological features to different "artists" has been the result of a meticulous typological study. The various "masters" have been conventionally named after the museum or the city which hosts characteristic works by them, after the excavator who brought them to light, or after the collector who possesses them. The very term "Master", however, need not indicate an individual artist. The presence of common characteristic may equally reflect the existence of workshops or local traditions or simply the prevailing of specific artistic styles in different periods.
