Left hand side view. The Datsun 120Y was marketed by its Japanese manufacturer as a fuel efficient economy car. It made its debut during the 1970s oil crisis, which was perfect timing for a vehicle that boasted efficient fuel consumption. The Datsun 120Y was not designed to travel long distances, but was a reliable town car.
The 1976 model was not very different from its predecessors, except in its styling and engine. It included a push button radio, steering lock, head restraints and flow-through ventilation, which were considered luxury additions at the time.
By 1986 Datsun’s parent company, Nissan, decided to phase the Datsun name out. The name was relaunched years later in 2013.
