María Pagés was born in Seville. She is internationally recognised for her personal aesthetic concept of flamenco art. She understands art as something unlimited and has conquered her own place in the world dance scene. In 2002 she was awarded the National Dance Prize.
Using the fundamental codes of flamenco language and researching within and outside it, Pagés has proven to be a pioneer in understanding flamenco as an evolving, contemporary and living art. In her choreographies she has overcome cultural differences, convinced that artistic exchanges favour a greater understanding between human beings. In her words, flamenco is a clear example of how the union between cultures, races and religions can create a common echo.
