Danville Home

Clara Barton’s lived in this home in Dansville, NY from 1876 - 1886. In 1876, Miss Barton entered Our Home on the Hillside, a sanitarium in Dansville, New York. She had been to Dansville earlier on a lecture tour and found it pleasant. Her time at the sanitarium was well deserved. Friends and neighbors in Dansville, anxious to honor her in a special way, established the first local society chapter of the American Red Cross, August 22, 1881. Fifty-seven members signed the Charter. Dansville, NY and later renamed itself the "Clara Barton Post."
