Niagara Falls local, Stephen Peer, walked a tightrope over the Niagara Gorge on June 22, 1887. The rope has a diameter of 5/8 of an inch, quite a difference from the 2-3 inch ropes used by the Great Blondin and other funambulists before him. These googles were part of his attire on the day in question.
