Dark Melt is a work by the American painter Kenny Scharf (Los Angeles, California, 1958). One of the biggest names to emerge from New York’s East Village 1980s art scene, Kenny Scharf is a defining figure in street art and Pop surrealism. He participated in Club 57, a centre for artistic and countercultural experimentation, along with his friends Haring and Basquiat. One of his principles is to reach beyond the elitist limits of fine art and connect with popular culture through his work. His practice spans an enormous range of media and styles, including murals, photorealistic painting, performance, installation, and his signature Blob pieces.
