Krzysztof Cander’s picture, painted in temper on a wooden board, depicts a murky interior in which a lucent figure dressed in a white, sweeping robe is placed in the foreground. From the depth of the interior, on the verge of the picture’s frame, a bearded man in a coif and a green mantle is looking at her. The composition’s background, making up the space of the mysterious interior, is divided into regular planes, clearly related to each other; horizontal as well as vertical divisions dominate. They act as a type of construction of the composition, assigning a stereometric depth to the display. The colour scheme is dark, with black, grey and blue dominant. [F. Pregowski]
