Decorated or painted eggs are part and parcel of Easter symbolism. Decorated or red-painted eggs stand for youth, good health and joyful life. Romanians often use the saying "handsome and healthy like a red egg". Numerous legends in the Romanian mythology dwell on the origin of red-painted eggs, connecting them to the blood dripping from the body of Jesus Christ when He was crucified. On Easter day the Christian tradition of tapping red eggs goes hand in hand with the Easter greeting of "Christ has been raised!"
