Tadeusz Szafran was born in Przemyśl in 1886. He studied painting under the tutelage of Florian Cynk and Leon Wyczółkowski. Additionally, he collaborated with Kazimierz Witkiewicz, with whom he developed a technique of decorating ceramic products with the art of batik. They were awarded a bronze medal for it in 1925 at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts and Contemporary Industry in Paris. From 1932, Szafran was the technical director at the faience factory in Chodzież, and at the end of the 1930s he created designs for Ćmielów.
