The painting comes from the sacristy of the convent of Santa Maria della Vittoria Nuova in Verona, which belonged to the religious order of the Gerolamini. More than any other patron, this order promoted Veronese’s Venetian career with a continuous series of commissions for the church of San Sebastiano. This painting is well-preserved and displays a refined iridescence of color and freedom of brushwork, especially in the landscape.
