Traditional houses in Japan often had small fitted cupboards built into an alcove, on which there would be sliding doors with painted decoration. This sketch is a design for sliding cupboard doors depicting two frogs at the waters edge and another swimming in the water. There are two oval shapes near the left and right margins indicating where the hand-pulls were to be placed. See 56.50.67 for a similar image.
