Design for 'How Galahad Sought the Sangreal' stained glass

This design is the third of four cartoons designed and made for the window of a landing in Burne-Jones' house in Rottingdean, Sussex. The windows (now in the V&A: C.623 to 626-1920) encapsulate the story of the Quest for the Sangreal (Holy Grail).

This cartoon depicts Galahad with spear and shield, his hands raised in prayer whilst the angel with the grail appears before him. Below, an inscription:"HOW GALAHAD SOUGHT THE SANGREAL AND FOUND IT BECAUSE HIS HEART WAS SINGLE SO HE FOLLOWED IT TO SARRAS THE CITY OF THE SPIRIT".
