Naniwa miyage (published in Genbun 3, (1738)), written by Miki Heiemon, is famous for its beginning which introduced Chikamatsu Monzaemon’s art theory Kyojitsu-Hiniku ron by Hodumi 0Ikan, a good friend of Chikamatsu. The writing desk is a replica made in 1742. A note of explaination to the reason of the replica is attached to the reverse side of the top. It is said to be a replica of writing desk that Chikamatsu had used frequently. A very similar writing desk was drawn in the illustration, titled A Portrait of Chikamatsu heian-o, of Naniwa Miyage.
