Detail of the frieze in the Great Hall of the Cuirassiers

1616

Quirinale Palace

Quirinale Palace
Rome, Italy

The frieze in the upper part of the walls of the cuirassiers hall was made in 1616.
The frescoes are characterized by the characters that look out from the fake loggias: they portray some important oriental and African embassies that arrived in Rome in the early 1600s, during the pontificate of Paul V. The choice of the subject is consistent with the function of the hall, here, in fact, the pope received sovereigns and ambassadors.
