With the 19th century nostalgia in the West for ancient civilizations came a wave of fashions in a neo-Egyptian style. And the “Egyptomania” continued with historic events such as the publications of Bonaparte’s campaigns or the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. By the early 20th century, more “Egyptian-style” art emerged, especially jewellery. Today, ancient motifs like the scarab beetle or the lotus remain sources of inspiration, objects of fascination.
