The trunks of trees are often carved into the shape of cattle hrons to mark holy shrines where sacrificies are made. Cattle are only killed as a sacrifice to receive a blessing from God. Tthe Dinka believe that their beloved animals, essential in every part of their lives, are their link to the spirit world.
