Dismemberment of a hippo carcass follows an age-old ritual with carefully incised spear cuts. In 1980 Kenya’s renowned photojournalist, Mohamed (Mo) Amin, headed north on a groundbreaking expedition into the interior. His destination was the shores of Lake Turkana where man’s ancestors took their first, faltering footsteps more than two million years ago. The goal was to be the first people to circumnavigate the Lake via motor vehicle. In 1981 the book ‘Cradle of Mankind’ was published highlighting this magnificent Lake and it’s incredible people. Prior to publishing this book, Mohamed Amin had made several trips to photograph and document the people and landscape of vanishing Africa.
