The Dolphin was established as a public house by local brewers Arkell's in the late 19th century. Situated in Even Swindon, it was popular with workers at the nearby Great Western Railway (GWR) Works.
According to Arkell's, special licences were obtained by the pub so that it could open early to service GWR workers and their families prior to departure on the company 'Trip' days.
