Doublet

Spanish doublet, or snug-fitting jacket, made of silk in two colours: black and its colour. With a broad straight neckline and long sleeves that are shaped at the elbows, very close-fitting to the torso, it has a pronounced dip on the front. It is decorated in the pickadil technique, cutting out floral motifs. It presents the structural characteristics of the Spanish female doublets from the second half of the 17th century. The female portraits of the time, specifically that of Queen Marie Louise of Orléans by the court painter, Carreño de Miranda, portray this authentically Spanish type of doublet.
