Juan Romagoza arrived in Washington, DC in 1983 as a refugee fleeing El Salvador’s brutal civil war. A former political prisoner and victim of torture, Romagoza led the growth of La Clínica del Pueblo 1987-2007 as it became the most recognized health center in the nation’s capital serving low-income people from local Latino and other immigrant communities.
