Offerings and goods were left around the sarcophagus containing the mummified deceased in order to provide an existence the same as he used to have on earth. Home for eternity, the burial chamber was then sealed.
Extracted and embalmed viscera were preserved in four jars dedicated to the sons of Horus: Qebehsenuef, Hapy, Imsety and Duamutef. Viscera, in the form of bundles, could also be put back in the abdomen. Canopic jars then became simply decorative elements.
