Duplicate of Yuan-dynasty Tuanshan Silk Fan Panel with Peony Patterns

Kesi is a silk tapestry literally meaning “cut silk”, named for the cut-like edges of patterns on the foundation weave. The tradition of using kesi silk tapestry for fan panels, perfectly combining function with decoration, originated in the Song dynasty (960-1279 AD).
On the foundation of the fan panel with neatly-arranged fine threads, patterns of peony blossoms were created with petals in threads of different shades of red and guards & ribs in blue and green threads. Some parts of the petals and guards & ribs were outlined with gold-inserted silk threads, with double-thread applied to leaf veins while single-thread to petals, giving this piece a brilliant and sumptuous look in the meantime of creating a clear-cut silhouette.
