Durga is a fierce goddess whose vehicle is a lion. In this image, her body represents several deities of Hinduism, such as Hanuman, Ganesh, Shiva, Brahma, among others. In her eight hands she holds weapons and symbols characteristic of her iconography such as the shell, the trident, the bow, the lotus flower, the gada (staff or scepter), the chakra (disk or rim). One of the hands is represented in the position or blessing mudra, abhaya hasta mudra. The cult of Durga is very popular, especially because she is associated with the death of the demon Mahishasura.
