The Book of Hours of William Hastings is a Flemish manuscript, commissioned by William Hastings, Grand Chamberlain of Edward IV. It keeps the use of Sarum or Salisbury. One of the scenes placed before Commendationes animarum reflects the fear of death and loneliness. Sign of Salvation is not perceived in the gloomy atmosphere of a room with a dying or dead man that is alone, while some desperate persons leave the scene.
