This control centre is located in a block between two hangars that were part of the former Hucknall airfield. In 1934, Rolls Royce leased two hangars and created a testing programme for aero engines and equipment. The site expanded and in 1944 a new H-shaped building was erected by Rolls Royce for the testing of piston engines. One part of the site was later used for jet engine testing.
