In 1938, under the leadership of the Reichspost Research Institute, a team was established with the aim of developing a cheap television receiver by Christmas 1939. In 1939, the unitary TV receiver E1 was presented at the 1939 International Radio and Television Exhibition in Berlin. The picture tube had an extremely flat screen and had an excellent picture quality. 10,000 devices were planned to be made at a price of 650 RM each, but because of the outbreak of the war, only 50 devices were manufactured.
